modifying the race car

Over my lockdown period I have been helping modify my uncle's race car. It is a  Nissan 180SX.
That he has owned for 14 years. It has been raced at Ruapuna, Levels and Teretonga raceways
The reason why my Uncle decided to strip it down as it required an update and some modifications.
My uncle, my dad, and myself have worked on it.

We have worked on the boot and we have taken the  old fuel tank out and taking the fuel surge lines out.
We have also cut a bigger hole in the boot and put bars of metal in as reinforcement.
We have taken the exhaust app and modified exhaust and put the exhaust back in by building
a new exhaust system. I painted in the back of the boot where all the metal have been put
and around that area to protect it from rust and we have also made a new fuel tank holder to hold
the new fuel tank.

We have also worked on the front and rear bumper. The front bumper we have put a few small bits
of aluminium and then bent them to help the bumper not to flex as much so when we  put in the grated
bit of metal to stop all the bugs and debris from flying in it will make it easier. With the rear bumper
we have cut it down a bit so it will make it look better.

I've learnt to cut and drill metal better and to paint metal better. I've also learnt some things about the
rollcage and about seats and harnesses about when they need to be replaced and things about the
engine and also the dash with all the component's on it.

When it's finished is going to have a totally new colour on it and it's going to have a bigger
exhaust and then it's going to have a bit of a better fuel tank with it. It's going to have all new fuel
lines and it's going to have a passenger seat in it. It's also going to have a sheet of metal that
goes across the back so it blocks the exhaust and the fuel tank from the driver or passenger .

  1. Wow Isaac!

I am so impressed with this piece of writing about the race car you are working on! I don't think I have ever seen such a long piece of writing from you. I like how you were so descriptive with all of your paragraphs and you clearly explained what you're doing, why you're working on it and how you are doing. This is evidence that you are a very capable writer.

Do you think it helped being able to write about a topic that interested you?

Great job and I look forward to catching up on the Google Meet Hangout later on today.

What great writing, and an awesome project. You must feel very proud to be able to be a part of the modification of the car. It sounds as if you are enjoying yourself, doing something that you enjoy. Was the 'black' you painted on ordinary paint., or was it a special paint designed for that purpose? What does it contain that helps it do that job?

Have you thought about taking some photos of the next steps that you could include on your blog?
Great work... keep it up #manahoromaka

  4. Wow Isaac, what a comprehensive report of what you have done. It looks like you have been having a great time with your family. What colour do you think it will be when finished.

  5. Hi Isaac.
I am so impressed with this post. Thank you for sharing. It is a great example of authentic learning. Following an interest or passion makes learning so much more engaging and interesting. It would be great to see some pictures of the work you have been doing on the car. When do you think you will allowed to have a ride in it?
